Ostertag Consulting, Inc. provides general consulting and advice and is owned and managed by Thomas J. Ostertag. Tom Ostertag was an executive at Major League Baseball for over 30 years during the terms of six commissioners. He held various senior positions at the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball and Major League Baseball Properties, including General Counsel of MLB Properties for five years and General Counsel in the Commissioner’s Office for 25 years. He had responsibility for a broad range of legal areas, including litigation, corporate and transactional work, broadcasting matters, club sale approval process matters including the process for examining incoming club owners, and many others. Tom also performed the legal work for Baseball Assistance Team, a charity that helps former players and other members of the baseball family in need.
Tom’s legal career began at Brown & Wood (now Sidley), where he was an associate in the corporate finance, public finance, and litigation departments. He has spoken extensively in connection with his work, written three law review articles, and testified on numerous occasions before Congress in federal and state courts and before administrative bodies. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
